Staying Informed and Prepared

Prevention Education for All IU Undergraduate Students

Indiana University is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and supportive campus environment where all students can thrive academically, personally, and socially. As part of that commitment, all incoming undergraduate students are required to complete online prevention education modules through the Prevention Education for All IU Undergraduate Students program.

These courses are delivered through Vector Solutions, a nationally recognized learning platform used by colleges and universities across the country to provide engaging, research-informed prevention education.

Why These Trainings Matter

As a large public university, Indiana University has a responsibility to support student wellbeing, promote student safety, and comply with federal and state education requirements related to prevention education.

The required modules help students:

  • Build healthy relationships and communication skills
  • Understand consent and sexual violence prevention
  • Recognize the effects of alcohol and substance use
  • Learn strategies for intervention and peer support
  • Identify and prevent hazing behaviors
  • Become familiar with campus resources and support services

Several federal laws and regulations guide these efforts, including:

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 — requires colleges and universities to address sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence through prevention education, reporting processes, and supportive resources.

The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act — supports campus safety, prevention education, and institutional transparency regarding campus crime and student safety.

The Stop Campus Hazing Act — federal legislation signed into law in 2024 that requires institutions to strengthen hazing prevention education, reporting, and transparency efforts.

In addition to federal requirements, Indiana University is committed to fostering a campus culture centered on safety, wellbeing, respect, and student success. These educational modules help students understand university expectations, recognize harmful behaviors, identify available resources, and build skills that support healthy decision-making and community responsibility.
