You get to try out different possible career alternatives so that you can eventually land on the one that works best for you. Think of it as designing your life. You don't need to enter college with everything already said. Use college as a laboratory that lets you investigate different possibilities. Your campus career services is right there with you to help you when you need advice on where to head next. Let's hear from your fellow students on how they started planning their career. I've been to now two career events. I've been connected to the Chicago Advertising Federation here in the local area. We travel there and we get to mingle with other professionals, which definitely provides us with a unique perspective of kind of, like, outside of the classroom. You get kind of the ins and outs of the industry, and those are really important just for overall big picture ideas. At the recent job in career fair, I was able to interact with a lot of different employers, and I ended up taking a lot from that as I have scheduled interviews in the next couple of weeks with people in the fields of media, working with children, creating camps and programs for different activities, as well as different fields of, you know, studies. So I was able to basically grow my connection on linked in with a lot of these employers, and it was a very great opportunity for students all around that are looking for the next thing to do in their life. Career services office on your campus is a great resource to help you prepare for your dream job. The earlier you start working with them, the better your chances of landing a fulfilling career after graduation. Don't hesitate to reach out. They're here to help. Need an online option because getting to campus is difficult. Check out the IU career edge on the website one U. Why Do Internships

Description of the video:

Welcome to Learning IU. My name is Hannah and I will be guiding you through your journey here at IU with the help of your fellow students. These videos will help you learn how to study smarter, grow professionally, stay healthy, and find tech. Did you know that having internships and employment experience during college can make you stand out to feature employers? Internships are about more than just gaining work experience or earning some money. They are about opening up new opportunities and creating a pathway towards a rewarding career. Let's hear from your fellow students on how they found value in internships. So I was actually able to intern with the Indiana Commission for higher education down in Indianapolis last summer. Um, it was an amazing initiative that I got to be a part of just through my work on campus and then out in the community as well with education and 21st century scholars. I was able to be a part of four different hiring committees as an undergrad. So a lot of weird interview experience that I had beforehand. It it was really helpful for me. Internships offer you the opportunity to not only understand what you do want to do in the future, but also maybe what you don't want to do. So I'm working for a nonprofit right now, and I love everything about it, and it's definitely exposed me to a lot of things that I wouldn't have been if I didn't work with them. So I work on the gallery, and with that, I use my photography to document the shows and take pictures of the artwork that's up. And since that's not really something we learn in the classroom. Having that internship really allowed me to learn how to hang work, how to work in a gallery, and work under a gallery director who has real world experience. So that really has helped me and given me skills that I may not have learned in the classroom. So I'm really grateful that I was able to intern On campus and in somewhere that interests me like the gallery. It's important to start planning your career from day one on campus. It's never too early to get started. Thanks for watching, and be sure to visit learning.iu.edu for more tips on enhancing your IU experience.
